Early life

Gogou was born on 1 June 1940 in Athens, Greece. Early on she experienced the Axis occupation of Greece that began in 1941.[2] During her young years, she started acting at various theatrical plays for children, for which she was appraised. She was invited to sing at the Aigli of Zappeion (the refectory and loved meeting place of many Athenians) joined by Nikos Gounaris.

One of her books, Three Clicks Left, was translated into English in 1983 by Jack Hirschman and published by Night Horn Books in San Francisco [3] and also into Turkish in 2018 by Turkish author Mahir Ergun and published by Belge International Publishing House in Istanbul. [4] The Greek title was 'Τρία κλικ αριστερά'; it was first published by Kastaniotis in 1978. Her poetry was known for its rebellious and anarcho-communist content.

Numerous poems written by Gogou appeared in Parangelia (παραγγελιά), a Greek film about the life of Nikos Koemtzis who, in 1973, killed three individuals (two of whom were policemen) and injured another eight at a bouzouki club in Athens over a dance.
