Early life

Kirk Thomas Myers was born on March 3, 1979 in Kansas City, Missouri, to parents, Rosemary Gibbons and Roger Myers. Myers was overweight throughout his childhood and teen years. Being fed mostly junk food, at his heaviest he weighed more than 300 lbs.[2]

At 21 an emergency medical exam revealed that he had congestive heart failure. He was then hospitalized in intensive care for 11 days. From that moment his life took a drastic turn and he looked towards sports and nutrition, managing to lose almost 130 lbs in two years.[3]

Career

After starting a successful career as a coach in Kansas, Myers fell into alcohol and drugs abuse that led him to intensive care.[2] Through help from his family and Kundalini yoga, he regained control of his life and moved to New York,[4] where he obtained a distinguished clientele that, little by little, made him one of the most sought after personal trainers in the city.[3] A big part of his training and life is centered around incorporating elements of kundalini yoga, and his space is used often for kundalini practice.

He has worked as a personal trainer for celebrity clients, including Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Adam Levine, Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler,[5] and many Victoria's Secret models.[6][7]

Myers has been featured in numerous magazines, publications and TV segments.[8][9][4][2] In 2018 he was nominated for the 2018 Greatmats National Fitness Trainer of the Year Award.[10] The award is designed to recognize trainers who have demonstrated service, integrity, and quality to make a positive impact on the lives of their clients and community as a whole.

Dogpound

In the fall of 2013, Myers met Hugh Jackman. Soon he was joined by Tom Farley, who was then the president of the New York Stock Exchange and several other new “members”. The group started training together and started a weekly group. Jackman would bring his dog to the sessions, so they took the name Dogpound.[11]

During the first month of the opening of Dogpound, Myers was introduced to his first Victoria Secret Angel Jasmine Tookes and word of mouth[8] grew up attracting more celebrities.[9] The gym is currently closed to new clients and the New York location has more than a 100-person waiting list.
