Komal Shahani

Komal Shahani is an Indian fashion costume designer, who has worked in the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries.[1][2][3]

Career

Soon after completing her studies, Komal Shahani began working as an assistant in a boutique showroom, aspiring to break into the fashion industry. Soon Shahani began to get opportunities to design costumes in films, including in her husband Ashish R. Mohan's Khiladi 786 (2013) and Welcome 2 Karachi (2015).[4] For the film Welcome 2 Karachi, Shahani notably researched fashion trends in Pakistan as seen in their newspapers and magazines. She also sourced embroidered leather Baloch jutis, mirror work Muslim caps, headscarves and turbans, as well military uniform of US, Indian and Pakistani personnel.[5] She has also worked on commitments for Filmfare magazine, notably on cover issues featuring Preity Zinta and Neha Dhupia.[4]

Shahani has also worked on South Indian films, making her debut through the bilingual film 180 (2011), set in Chennai and San Francisco. In the 2010s, she worked extensively with Vijay on his costumes for films. Notably, she designed the actor's outfits for Thuppakki (2012), as well as for the multiple roles that he played in his three films with Atlee.[6][7][8] For Cobra (2021), Shahani worked on the design of Vikram's seven distinct looks in the film.[7]

Personal life

Komal Shahani is married to Hindi film director Ashish R. Mohan. The pair were married in a ceremony in February 2012 attended by several Hindi film personalities.[9][10]
