Background
1990 AFC Youth Championship winners South Korea and runner-ups North Korea qualified for the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship though the football associations of the two countries agreed to form a single team for the world championships which was held in Portugal. Nine players from each of the two countries formed the squad of the unified Korean team. The head coach was An Se-uk of North Korea and Nam Dae-sik of South Korea. The Korean Unification Flag, which composed of a blue image of the Korean Peninsula over a white background, was the symbol used by the team which competed under the name "Korea".[1]
