Kurnool City railway station

Kurnool City railway station, formerly Kurnool Town railway station (station code:KRNT[1]), located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, serves Kurnool in Kurnool district.[2]

Station category

Kurnool is one of the A category stations and one of the ten model stations in the Hyderabad Division of South Central Railway

Structure and amenities

The station has rooftop solar panels installed by the Indian railways, along with various railway stations and service buildings in the country, as a part of sourcing 500 MW solar energy.[3][4]Recently Indian Railway has upgraded,beautified and renovated the station incurring an expenditure of around 15 crore[5].Under the modernisation programme the station enterance,waiting hall,retiring rooms,and platforms have been renovated[6].The city caters to average 12500 passengers per day[7].Provision for washable aprons had been added too[8].Provision added for refreshments room for anytime food facility for passengers has been made for the convenience of travellers to get beverages at any time.[9]

There is a foot-over-bridge,two lifts,escalators and passenger information display and signage are also available for the passenger convenience[10].Butterfly-type shelters have been provided in all platforms for the passengers to sit and wait till the scheduled arrival of trains[11].Also station building and some of the walls have been painted and beautified to display the art and culture of the local place.[12]

The outer part of Railway station is also getting modernised which includes the shifting of sub station,water tank catering to railway station needs,postal service to decongest the railway station for movement of vehicles coming to and going from station[13].Construction of tensile modelled structures for auto rickshaw parking,car packing,pick up and drop of passengers place,etc is under progress[14].Upgradation of drainage system is also under progress for smooth flow of water during rainy season[15].Additional provisions include renovating footpath area,space deck portico and station enterance for free movement of travellers.[16]

The above renovation and modification made the Kurnool Railway station look alike and modified to airport standards.

Rail coach factory

A rail coach factory is being established at Kurnool. The foundation stone was laid on 24 February 2014 and got Railway Minster NOD.[17]
