Kuwait English School

Kuwait English School (abbreviation: KES) is an independent and private international school in Kuwait. The main campus of the school is located in Salwa. It provides a British curriculum education from Kindergarten to A levels. Entry into the school isn't through a comprehensive test. There are estimated to be 2500 students enrolled in the school with school faculty numbers likely between 100–450.[1] It was established in 1978 by Jassim Al Saddah, the schools Founder/Director and the current KES Director alongside Rhoda Elizabeth Mahmoud.[2]

KES is divided into four departments: Infants (Kindergarteners to 2nd graders) Juniors (3rd to 6th graders) Seniors (Year 7-13) and the Green Unit (Department for children with special needs.) Each of the departments has its own head. (Names will not be disclosed due to lack of consent from teachers.)

The establishment of KES was in 1978 by Mohamed Jassim Al Saddah the current chairman, alongside Rhoda Elizabeth Muhmood, the current founder/school director. The school was originally a villa until 1984 where they established a "proper" school facility. This school ground has undergone many changes throughout its life.

In 1991, the school opened the aforementioned green unit to cater towards students with special needs/learning disabilities. Shortly after the Kuwait Liberation, the school was visited by Princess Anne. Shortly after, in 1997, a specialised area known as the "Millennium Centre" was opened, introduced by Rasha Al Sabah, the then Under-Secretary Of State for the ministry of higher education.

Recently, in 2020 the school came under scrutiny after their twitter account was hacked and tweets mocking the recent death of George Floyd were posted on it. While these tweets were removed, the school has yet to release a statement.
