Lancaster Central School District

The Lancaster Central School District is a New York school district including the area surrounding Lancaster, New York. The district consists of 7 schools and for the 2015-2016 school year has a total enrollment of 5,278 students . The current Superintendent is Dr. Michael Vallely. The school district had received national media attention due to controversy over the school's former mascot, the Lancaster Redskins. Once a redskin always a redskin!!!!.[1]

History

Lancaster High School was established in 1894. It moved to the Aurora Street School (currently Lancaster Middle School) in 1922, and to the current building in 1956.

History

Lancaster Middle School was built and opened in 1922 as Lancaster High School. After Grades 9-12 moved to the newly constructed Lancaster High School on Forton Drive in 1956, Grades 7 and 8 remained housed in the building, and became known as Aurora Middle School. The building changed its name from Aurora Middle School to Lancaster Middle School in 2003 to avoid confusion with East Aurora Middle School.[13]
