Development

In January 2019, Edgar Wright said he would next work on a London-set psychological horror film co written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns.[4][5]

Casting

Anya Taylor-Joy, Matt Smith and Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie joined the next month,[6][7] followed by Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp, Rita Tushingham, Michael Ajao and Synnøve Karlsen in June.[8] Rigg died shortly after production had concluded, making Last Night in Soho her last film role. It is also the last film appearance of Margaret Nolan, who died in October 2020.

Filming

Filming began on 23 May 2019 and wrapped 30 August 2019.[9] The film is said to be inspired by other British horror films, such as Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now and Roman Polanski's Repulsion, with Wright mentioning the film's use of time travel.[10] Wright posted several photos in his Instagram account regarding additional filming commenced on 24 June 2020 and concluded on 5 August 2020.[11][12][13][14]

Release

Last Night in Soho is scheduled to be released on 22 October 2021.[15] It has had two prior premiere dates: 23 April 2021[16] and 25 September 2020. Both dates were scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[17]
