Leandro Ataides

Leandro Ataides (born September 4, 1986) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who has fought three times for Shooto in Brazil and is currently signed with ONE Championship.[5][6]

He is also a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner who holds a black belt and is best known for winning gold in the medium heavyweight division at the 2005 Copa de Mundo in Rio de Janeiro. He has also won numerous BJJ tournaments at a national, regional and international level.

Mixed martial arts career

Ataides made his debut in 2008. In July 2013, he joined the fight team at Evolve MMA in Singapore[7] and signed with ONE FC.

ONE Fighting Championship / ONE Championship

On November 1, 2013 it was announced that Ataides would be fighting at ONE Fighting Championship: Warrior Spirit in Kuala Lumpur on November 15 against French veteran Bryan Rafiq.[8]

Ataides won the fight by TKO in the opening round, becoming the first fighter to ever stop the Frenchman.[9]

Ataides faced Tatsuya Mizuno at ONE Fight Championship: Rise of Heroes, finishing him via TKO in under a minute of the first round.

It was then announced that Ataides would face Igor Svirid for the inaugural ONE Middleweight World Championship at ONE Fighting Championship: Battle of the Lions on November 7, 2014. He lost to Svirid by TKO at 17 seconds of the first round.[10]

Ataides next fought Aleksei Butorin at ONE Championship: Odyssey of Champions on September 27, 2015.[11] He lost his second straight fight as he was knocked out in the second round.[12]

Ataides was scheduled to face Marcin Prachnio at ONE Championship: Kingdom of Champions on May 27, 2016.[13] His losing streak was extended to three as he dropped a split decision to Prachnio.[14]
