Johnson joined the academy of Milton Keynes Dons having previously played for Aston Villa's academy.[2] On 11 November 2020 he made his senior first team debut, starting in a 1–2 EFL Trophy group stage defeat at home to Southampton U21.[3]

On 26 December 2020 he made his league debut, coming on as an 69th-minute substitute for Cameron Jerome in a 2–0 home win against Bristol Rovers.[4]
