List of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss characters

This is a list of significant characters from the adult animation series Hazbin Hotel and web series Helluva Boss—created, directed, written and produced by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano—including any relevant media adaptations and spin-offs explicitly stated to take place within its shared narrative universe.

Types of demons

Hellborns

"Hellborns" are native born demons. Outside of the elite aristocratic demon families, many other Hellborn species of demons exist.

  • Hellhound demons are a species native to Hell. They resemble canines or canine-like carnivorans (such as dogs and wolves).[1] As with Imps, Hellhounds have a subservient role in Hell, with their services or labor being advertised and exploited by businesses. In addition, a sinner may take on a Hellhound-like form upon their arrival in Hell.

Sinners

Deceased former humans-turned-demons from Earth thrown into Hell as punishment for sins committed in life are called sinners. Sinners are confined to the Pride ring; however, Hellborn demons are able to traverse every ring in Hell.[2]

Hazbin Hotel principal characters

Charlie

  • Charlotte "Charlie" Magne[3] (voiced by Jill Harris;[4] singing voice by Elsie Lovelock[5]) is the main protagonist and founder of the titular Hazbin Hotel (originally named the Happy Hotel, as seen in the pilot). She is the daughter of King Lucifer and Queen Lilith, and was born in Hell. Upset by the yearly cleanse in which a number of demons are destroyed by a type of angel known as Exterminators, she, along with her girlfriend Vaggie, seeks to open a hotel that allows for the rehabilitation of sinners with the hope that they can receive forgiveness and enter Heaven.[6][7][8] However, her bold plans are often laughed at and seen as impossible by most citizens of Hell. She is shown to be very naive and hopelessly optimistic but cares deeply for her people. She has a love for musical theatre, preferring to express herself in song and dance. She was confirmed to be bisexual by series creator Vivienne Medrano on her Twitter account.[9]

Vaggie

  • Vagatha "Vaggie" (voiced by Monica Franco[10]) is the manager of the Hazbin Hotel[3] and Charlie's girlfriend.[6][7][8] She is highly supportive of Charlie and has a quick temper. Despite said temper, she often acts as the more level-headed and rational one, and she struggles to keep the hotel's image up. She is quite annoyed by Angel Dust's trouble-making and doesn't trust Alastor at all due to his reputation. She can also summon various knives, spears and daggers at will. There is little information about her past life, but it is known that she entered Hell in 2014.[3]

Angel Dust

  • Anthony "Angel Dust" (voiced by Michael Kovach[11]) is a gay spider demon adult entertainer, and the first volunteer for Charlie's rehabilitation program. He does not take Charlie's cause seriously, stating to only be interested in the rent-free accommodation (much to Vaggie's anger) and tends to get into mischief behind their backs. In his mortal life, Angel was born into a crime family,[3] most of which reside in Hell with him, all as spider demons, in order to represent their 'web of crime'.[12] Angel struggled with drug addiction which ultimately led to his death in 1947.[3] His nickname is based on the street name for the drug phencyclidine, which he still regularly uses in Hell, as seen in the pilot.

Alastor

  • Alastor the "Radio Demon" (voiced by Edward Bosco;[13] singing voice by Gabriel C. Brown) is an eccentric overlord of Hell. He is known to be extremely powerful, and is capable of rivaling some of Hell's most ancient demons, despite having been a mortal human in life. Upon his arrival in Hell, he built up a terrifying reputation very quickly. Often keeping to a calm and gentlemanly demeanor, he prefers to always keep a smile on his face and shares Charlie's love of music and dance. His voice sounds like a vintage 1920s radio show, complete with static, sound effects (including a laugh track), and theme music. He offers his services to Charlie in order to help her maintain her goal of running the hotel, but only for the amusement of watching other demons fail in the process. Charlie reluctantly allows him to help for as long as he chooses in the form of a royal order, as long as he doesn't do anything to jeopardize the hotel, to avoid making one of his infamous pacts. He provides the hotel with two staff members and protects Charlie's business from outside threats. It's stated that in his past life, Alastor was an asexual radio announcer who lived a double life as a serial killer in New Orleans, Louisiana.[14][15] Having lived to see the stock market crash, he died in 1933. Alastor has a rivalry with another overlord by the name of Vox, as seen in the comic "A Day in the Afterlife" on the official Hazbin Hotel website.

Niffty

  • Niffty (voiced by Michelle Marie[16]) is a small, hyperactive cyclops demon from the 1950s[17] who is obsessed with cleanliness and men. She died at age 22.[18] She is summoned by Alastor to serve as the hotel housekeeper.

Husk

  • Husk "Husker" (voiced by Mick Lauer[19]) is a very ill-tempered, gambling, alcoholic cat demon who easily loses his temper. He's summoned by Alastor to serve as the bartender of the hotel. He died in the 1970s of alcohol poisoning.[17] According to one of the animators of Hazbin Hotel, he is pansexual.[20]

Helluva Boss principal characters

Blitzo

  • Blitzo (pronounced "Blitz" despite people from his past remain calling him "Blitzo") (voiced by Brandon Rogers[21][22]) is the main protagonist of the show. He is the founder and manager of I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals), a startup assassination business that carries out its services in the living world. Despite this, he is not very good at managing his money and is rather terrible at running a business, which is a recurring gag in the series. He has an on-and-off relationship with Stolas, a Goetial demon of Hell, which allows him to keep their only way to the human world, a book he stole from Stolas, open. According to his official Instagram account, he is pansexual.[23]

Moxxie

  • Moxxie (voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz[22]) is the straight man weapons expert of I.M.P. and is married to Millie. He is often annoyed with Blitzo stalking him and Millie as well Blitzo’s habit of unnecessarily wasting money. Ironically, even though he is okay with assassinating people, has some problems killing supposedly innocent people, as seen in both the pilot, when he is distraught over shooting a child, and in "Murder Family" when he stops Blitzo from killing the wife of a seemingly happy family who turn to be murderous Satanists, and later goes back to try and save the rest of the family from their evil ways (but ends up getting them all killed anyway, much to his horror). He also finds theme parks and their mascots disturbing, as seen in "Loo Loo Land". In September of 2020, on Bi Visibility Day, series creator Vivienne Medrano revealed he is bisexual on her Twitter account.[24]

Millie

  • Millie (voiced by Vivian Nixon,[21] Erica Lindbeck (Pilot)[22]) is the bruiser of I.M.P. and is married to Moxxie. She is a clear extrovert and is not afraid to speak her mind, whether expressing her excitement or flipping off a coworker. She has no problem in killing anyone whom she has been hired to do so, even if they seem innocent or are a family. She has a childlike fondness for Loo Loo Land.

Loona

  • Loona (voiced by Erica Lindbeck[25][26][27]) is the Hellhound receptionist of I.M.P. (although she barely does her job, as seen in the pilot). She generally has no interest in matters that are going on around her. Loona is rude and apathetic toward her colleagues. She is the adopted daughter of Blitzo, showing a slightly less harsh side to him compared to the others. She is shown to possibly have a crush on Vortex, a hellhound of Verosika, in the episode "Spring Broken," and seemed unhappy to learn that he already has a girlfriend.[28]

Recurring characters

Recurring Rulers of Hell

  • Lucifer and Lilith Magne, rulers of The Pride Ring, and the king and queen regnants of Hell. In the pilot, Charlie's parents are only shown in shadow and in a portrait at the hotel. Parts of their character designs, such as Lucifer's staff and the apple emblem on his hat hint at his tempting of Eve. Lucifer is also stated to be a fallen angel. He runs a theme park called Lu Lu World, as mentioned in episode two of Helluva Boss.

Recurring Overlords of Hell

  • Rosie, one of the major overlords of Hell, who runs an emporium that she used to share with a demon named Franklin until he was killed in the most recent extermination. Her only appearance in the pilot is in the opening act, where she is seen crossing out Franklin's name from her shop after he had been killed. She is stated to be friends with Alastor, as implied in Alastor's backstory comic.
  • Vox, the "TV Demon", one of the major overlords of Hell and Alastor's biggest rival. He runs a triumvirate with Valentino and Velvet, known as the "Three Vs". He is shown with a flat-screen television monitor for a head that broadcasts his face on the screen. His only appearance in the pilot is in the opening act, hiding in Valentino's porn studios with Velvet and Valentino during the aftermath of the latest extermination.
  • Valentino "Val", the "Porn Demon", one of the major overlords of Hell. Valentino is a moth demon, and he runs the biggest porn studios of Hell. He is the boss of Angel Dust, whom he abuses sexually and psychologically. His first appearance in the show is during the opening act of the pilot, where he is hiding a porn studio with Velvet and Vox during the aftermath of the extermination. He also appears in the 'Addict' music video, and is shown abusing Angel Dust in graphic sexual ways.
  • Velvet, one of the major overlords of Hell. Her only appearance in the pilot is in the opening act, taking a selfie with Vox while they hide in the porn studios during the aftermath of the extermination.

Eldritch family

  • Frederick von Eldritch, one of the major overlords of Hell and the father of Helsa and Seviathan von Eldritch, as well as the husband of Bethesa von Eldritch.
  • Bethesa von Eldritch, one of the major overlords of Hell and the mother of Helsa and Seviathan von Eldritch, as well as the wife of Frederick.
  • Helsa von Eldritch, Charlie's rival and the spoiled heiress of the von Eldritch family, a powerful Overlord family. Her only appearances in the pilot are in Charlie's musical number "Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow", and on a portrait inside the Hazbin Hotel.
  • Seviathan von Eldritch, the brother of Helsa and Charlie's ex-boyfriend.[29] His only appearance in the pilot is on said portrait and one of his and Charlie's families.

Goetial demons

  • Stolas (voiced by Bryce Pinkham,[30] Brock Baker (Pilot)[31][32]), a Goetial demon of Hell in a complicated relationship with Blitzo. He is very owl-like in appearance. He is married, and has a daughter named Octavia whom he acts as a "dorky dad" around, putting her happiness ahead of everything else. In the pilot, it is noted that he has had sex with Blitzo before, which is how Blitzo got the book that Stolas uses for his job so he could perform his own. In the episode "Murder Family", he asks Blitzo to come see him once a month, where Stolas will use the book to do his job before engaging in sexual activity with Blitzo and returning the book to Blitzo for the rest of the month.
  • Stella (voiced by Georgina Leahy), another owl-like Goetial demon who is married to Stolas and has a daughter named Octavia. She isn't embarrassed by husband's infidelity or his preference for males, but rather by the fact that her husband had intercourse with an imp, as imps are the lowest order of demons.
  • Octavia (voiced by Barrett Wilbert Weed, Juliana Sada (Young Octavia)), Stolas and Stella's scornful, disenfranchised 17-year-old daughter. Although she is often sarcastic about Stolas' affair with Blitzo, she also genuinely loves her father and worries about him moving away with the imp.[33]

Hellborns: Indigenous Inhabitants

  • Barbie Wire, sister of Blitzo and imp circus performer who appears on a poster in the pilot.
  • Tilla, sister of Blitzo and imp circus performer like Barbie Wire who appears on a poster in the pilot.
  • Razzle and Dazzle, two small goat demons who serve as Charlie's personal servants and bodyguards. They appear backstage with Charlie and Vaggie in the television studio, and take part during Charlie's song "Inside of Every Demon Is a Rainbow" as pianists and backup vocalists.
  • Fat Nuggets, Angel Dust's demonic pet pig.
  • The Egg Bois (voiced by Joe Gran), Sir Pentious' loyal egg minions.
  • Robo Fizz (voiced by Alex Brightman[34]), robotic duplicate of circus performer Fizzarolli and performer at Loo Loo Land, whom Blitzo holds a grudge against. He is very clown-like in appearance and it has been stated that his design is inspired by his voice actor's work on Broadway.[35]
  • Verosika Mayday (voiced by Cristina Vee), a Succubus demon and pop-star, and Blitzo's ex. She is shown to be very rude and shameless, and she and her posse all take a disliking to I.M.P. in "Spring Broken".[28]
  • Vortex (voiced by James Monroe Igleheart), a Hellhound who works for Verosika. Loona appears to have a crush on him as shown in the episode "Spring Broken", only to learn that he already has a girlfriend.[28]

Sinners: Immigrants from Earth

  • Sir Pentious (voiced by Will Stamper[36]), an English anthropomorphic demon cobra from the Victorian era. His goal is to take over Hell using his own inventions with the assistance of his egg sidekicks, though he frequently does not achieve his goals. He died in 1888.[14]
  • Cherri Bomb "Cherri" (voiced by Krystal LaPorte,[37] singing voice by Kelly "Chi-Chi" Boyer), an Australian one-eyed demon punk girl from the 1980s and Angel Dust's best friend and partner in crime. She was featured prominently in the "Addict" music video, being shown comforting Angel while he has a mental breakdown, and additionally destroying things promoting content from Angel's abuser, Valentino, with explosives.
  • Katie Killjoy (voiced by Faye Mata[38]), 666 News' main anchor. She died in 1992.[14] She is a mantis demon,[39] and is shown to have a neck that constantly breaks.
  • Tom Trench (voiced by Joshua Tomar[40]), 666 News' co-anchor, along with Katie Killjoy.
  • Arackniss, Molly and Angel Dust's older brother who is stated to be redesigned.
  • Henroin, a former Mafia Don, and the father of Arackniss, Angel Dust, and Molly. His name is a combination of the word "heroin" and the name "Henry".
  • Mimzy, a short, chubby, and cheerful demon, whose only appearance in the pilot is a brief cameo in Charlie's televised musical number.
  • Baxter, a short, anthropomorphic fish demon, who will be a frequent associate at the hotel. He enjoys science, and is stated to have died in the 1910s.[41]
  • Crymini, an anthropomorphic Hellhound. Her only appearance in the pilot is in the crowd of spectators, who are joined by Alastor in watching Charlie's hotel promotion on the news.
  • Mrs. Mayberry (voiced by Mara Wilson[42][43]), a former human teacher who had a mental breakdown after finding out that her husband cheated on her with another woman named Martha. She then attacked and killed him and injured Martha, then realized that her students had seen the whole thing over her computer and committed suicide out of remorse. In Hell she hires the I.M.P. to kill Martha after finding out that she survived the attack.

Recurring Inhabitants of Heaven

  • Exterminators, a type of angel from Heaven who are sent to purge Hell for its overpopulation problem once a year on December 31.[44] They are shown to wear LED masks and wield the only weapons that can permanently destroy the beings of Hell, a special kind of spear. They are tall, slim, and gray, with large horns and wings. They do not seem to care what happens to their weapons, as they tend to leave them in their victims, which are often removed and sold by demons of Hell.
  • C.H.E.R.U.B.s, a group of angels and cherubs planned to appear in a future episode of Helluva Boss. They seem to have the opposite purpose of I.M.P., as in a teaser shown for the episode they appear in, they sing a song about always helping people.[45] They are very small and sheep-like in appearance.

Unknown Status

  • Villa, an anthropomorphic poodle demon with two large pigtails.
  • Roo, a demon that nothing is known about and who will be explored later in the series.[46]
  • Molly, Angel Dust's fraternal twin sister who is said to be neither an angel or demon.
  • Travis (voiced by Don Darryl Rivera), a demon who had sex with Angel Dust in the Hazbin Hotel pilot and has made cameo appearances in the "Addict" music video and the Helluva Boss episode "Spring Broken" since.
  • An unnamed demon featured prominently in the "Addict" music video as a demon Cherri Bomb often thought about.

Human characters

  • Martha (voiced by Jinkx Monsoon[21]), the woman who Mrs. Mayberry's husband cheated on with. After surviving being shot by Mrs. Mayberry, she received lots of money through donations and talkshow stints, and subsequently became very wealthy. She is married to a man named Ralphie (voiced by Maxwell Atoms[47][21]), though she is shown to cheat on him with other men, and has two children with him. She maintains the appearance of a wholesome and happy mother and wife, but she and her family are murderous maniacs behind closed doors, as they decorate their house with body parts and are very violent. She was shot and killed by Moxxie in episode one of Helluva Boss.
  • Eddie (voiced by Horvitz[48]), a child who I.M.P. shot in the pilot episode, and while under the impression that he was the wrong target, brought to a hospital before bringing him back to Hell. He is shown to be very rude, and insults each member of I.M.P. before Loona receives a text informing her that he was the right target after all and Blitzo shoots him, killing him. He is then dismembered and given back to his mother in a sack.
