List of Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl episodes
This is a list of episodes for Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, aired in Japan as Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl (ポケットモンスター ダイヤモンド&パール, Poketto Monsutā Daiyamondo & Pāru), the tenth season of the Pokémon animated series and the first part of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl. It originally aired in Japan from September 28, 2006 to October 25, 2007 on TV Tokyo, and in the United States from April 27, 2007 to February 1, 2008 on Cartoon Network. Covering the continuing adventures of series protagonist Ash Ketchum and Pikachu, and his best friend Brock, the two meet a new coordinator named Dawn, who travels with them through Sinnoh and enters Pokemon Contests.

The first 3 episodes in Japan did not have the opening song, instead the instrumental songs from the Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl Japanese Anime Sound Collection serve as opening songs during the original broadcast, and episode 1 on DVD. The Japanese opening song is "Together" by Fumie Akiyoshi starting in episode 4 during the original broadcast, and starting in episode 2 on DVD. The ending songs are "By Your Side 〜Hikari's Theme〜" (君のそばで 〜ヒカリのテーマ〜,Kimi no Soba de 〜Hikari no Tēma〜), "By Your Side 〜Hikari's Theme〜 (PopUp. Version)" (君のそばで〜ヒカリのテーマ〜 PopUp. Version, Kimi no Soba de 〜Hikari no Tēma〜 PopUp. Version) and "By Your Side 〜Hikari's Theme〜 (Winter. Version)" (君のそばで 〜ヒカリのテーマ〜 Winter. Version, Kimi no Soba de 〜Hikari no Tēma〜 Winter Version) by Grin. The English opening song is "Diamond and Pearl" by "Breeze" Barczynski. Its instrumental version did serve as the end credit song.

Dawn is a 10-year-old girl living in the region of Sinnoh, aspiring to become a great Pokémon Coordinator like her mother. She starts out heading towards the Pokémon Laboratory in Sandgem Town to get her starter Pokémon, but gets lost. She bumps into an elderly man, who turns out to be Professor Rowan! Arriving at his lab, Professor Rowan and Dawn find the lab destroyed after Professor Rowan's assistants were unable to stop two of the starter Pokémon, Piplup and Chimchar, from fighting. Chimchar and Piplup escape the lab so Dawn offers to go and look for them. She eventually finds Piplup trapped with other Pokémon in an Ariados' web. Following the ordeal, Dawn and Piplup bond with each other, so Dawn decides to choose Piplup as her starter. Meanwhile, Ash arrives in Sinnoh by ship and has an aerial battle with Team Rocket, resulting in Pikachu getting lost in a forest. | |||||

Dawn, with her recently-acquired Piplup, sets her sights on Jubilife City for her first Pokémon Contest. Along the way, Ash's weakened Pikachu appears in front of her. Mistaking it for a wild Pokémon, Dawn battles Pikachu with her Piplup and tries to catch it. Team Rocket appears and tries to steal Pikachu again, but Pikachu fends them off with Dawn and Piplup's help. Dawn brings Pikachu to a nearby Pokémon Center and calls Professor Rowan. Ash begins his search for Pikachu when he reunites with Brock along the way. Later on, Ash captures a Starly, then meets Professor Rowan for the first time shortly after Dawn calls him to update him. The two of them then begin to track each other down with the aid of Professor Rowan, Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. | |||||

Ash continues his search for Pikachu with Brock. While searching, they run into a new trainer named Paul, who immediately butt heads with each other over their respective training methods and Paul's condescending attitude towards Ash. Paul challenges Ash to a three-on-three Pokémon battle, but as Ash only has Aipom and Starly, Paul scoffs and leaves. Dawn, Piplup and Pikachu are helped by Ash, Aipom and Starly as they battle Team Rocket. Dawn and Ash become fast friends as they head back to the Pokémon Lab to get a package that was sent from Ash's mother, which turns out to be a package of new clothes. Ash, Dawn and Brock, now reunited with Pikachu, all head toward Jubilife City when they run into Paul again. Paul challenges Ash again and despite the battle ending in a tie, Ash feels like he lost. | |||||

Ash and Dawn have started traveling together, but they are already having problems getting along with each other. Wanting to prove herself to Ash, Dawn challenges a Pokémon bard by the name of Nando to a battle. The two later find out that Nando is skilled and undecided about whether to challenge Gyms or Contests, causing Ash and Dawn to each try and persuade him to challenge their preferred competitions. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Nando decided to drop neither one side and chose to take both Gyms and Contests. | |||||

Team Rocket escapes after stealing Pikachu yet again, so Ash has Starly knock down their hot-air balloon. A wild Turtwig saves Pikachu from the cage and then attacks Team Rocket. Ash, Brock and Dawn show up and Dawn tries to catch Turtwig, but a wild Oddish is hit by Turtwig's attacks. Ash grabs Pikachu just as they are hit with Oddish's Sleep Powder, and then Turtwig carries Pikachu away. An elderly woman called Clara invites them to her house where she tells them about Turtwig and how it takes care of all the Pokémon in the area. Later, they find the two Pokémon but Turtwig attacks Ash. He explains that Pikachu is his best friend and Turtwig feels bad. Team Rocket shows up again and catches Pikachu and Turtwig, running off with Ash and Piplup close behind. | |||||

While setting up for lunch, Ash and friends try to stop Piplup and Aipom from fighting, and Turtwig eventually intervenes. Paul appears and challenges Ash to another battle. Ash battles Paul with his Turtwig and ends up battling Team Rocket too when they interfere. They get knocked off a ledge and then have to make their way through a forest, where Paul catches a Stantler and then releases it because he assumed it was weak. Meanwhile, Ash was being hypnotized multiple times after looking at the glowing horns of the Stantler herd, giving him many horrible illusions. After meeting up with Brock and Dawn, Ash and the rest are then chased out of the forest by an Ursaring. Paul defeats and catches it, indicating that the Ursaring was worth capturing. Ash then challenges Paul to a battle again, which Paul ends up winning, much to Ash's dismay. | |||||

Dawn is training Piplup for the upcoming Pokémon Contest. Team Rocket find some water Pokémon and Ludicolo squabbling over food and thinks of a plan to steal the food. They say they are going to help out when Ash and Co. then arrive. Team Rocket then steals the food and Piplup sees that the water Pokémon are upset. Piplup later tries to help the water Pokémon reclaim some stolen food. Piplup used a move that Dawn was teaching it to win the contest. Piplup perfects the move and makes Dawn very proud. | |||||

Ash and his friends are heading to Jubilife City when a young girl named Minnie stops and asks them where the next gym is. Dawn and Ash tell her that it is Oreburgh City, however Minnie has heard of a gym way closer than that. They then find a fake gym being run by Team Rocket and a Croagunk that followed Meowth to the gym. Brock takes a liking to Croagunk and decides to catch it. | |||||

With Paul winning the Coal Badge, it is now Ash's turn to face Roark. Ash then goes to the nearest Pokémon Center to heal his Pokémon, but winds up arguing with Paul. A kid approaches Paul and thanks him for giving him the Azumarill that Paul used in the battle. The trio are then in the Gym where Ash faces Roark. Ash uses Aipom, Turtwig, and Pikachu. As a favor, Jessie wants to use Ash's Aipom to represent her in the Pokémon contest. Dawn and Jessie challenge each other in the final round, but Aipom manages to defeat Pachirisu and Jessie wins many bunches of bananas. But before they leave, Aipom rejoins Ash. | |||||

As they make their way towards Eterna City, Ash and his friends run into a Nurse Joy at a Pokémon Center with their pack of Drifloon. When Team Rocket try to kidnap the Father's Ampharos at the Power Plant, it causes an explosion which makes the electricity at the Pokémon Center to go out. With an approaching thunderstorm, Nurse Joy and Marnie Joy head towards the Plant to try to help. Paige also tries to help, but the wind carries her, her Drifloon, and Pikachu into the mountains. Ash attempts to save them, but he too gets caught in trouble. Soon after, Suicune appears and saves everyone. | |||||

After Chimchar accepts Ash's invitation to join the team, Ash battles alongside Paul in the tournament semifinals against Brock and Holly. They quickly make it to the finals where they are matched against Dawn and Conway. Paul's Elekid evolves into Electabuzz. Ash and Paul win the tournament and both receive a Soothe Bell as a prize. Paul then gives his to Ash, claiming that he has no need for it. By the end, Conway advises Ash to go to Veilstone City for his next gym badge. |
Home Media releases
In the United States, the series was released on six volume DVDs (each containing 8-9 episodes per disc) by Viz Media in North America, released both individually and in a boxset.[1][2]
Viz Media and Warner Home Video released Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl – The Complete Season on DVD on August 20, 2019.[3]
