  43. The Trine chapter was originally the Alpha chapter of a small national that merged into ΤΚΕ called Sigma Mu Sigma in 1935. However, the Trine chapter didn't join with that merger due to lack of school accreditation. One year later, in 1936, it became the Psi chapter of Alpha Lambda Tau, a Junior NIC member, not subject to the same accreditation rules. Eleven years later, Alpha Lambda Tau also merged with ΤΚΕ, bringing its Psi chapter with it. After TKE gained this chapter in 1947 following the merger, the NIC demanded that TKE revoke the charter if they wanted to remain in the NIC because Tri-State University was still not an accredited university. TKE revoked the charter of this new Beta-Epsilon chapter at the next Conclave. The chapter then affiliated with Kappa Sigma Kappa, another Junior NIC member, in 1952. When Kappa Sigma Kappa merged with Theta Xi in 1962, the chapter was again ineligible for the merger due to the accreditation status of Tri-State University. Tri-State University achieved accreditation finally, a year later, in 1963. The chapter petitioned Kappa Sigma and became a chapter of that fraternity in 1966. Now that the school was accredited, TKE reestablished its chapter on the campus in 1989. This group retained the Beta-Epsilon chapter designation, even though the earlier group remains a chapter of Kappa Sigma.
