Note
  1. Certain award groups do not simply award one winner. They recognize several different recipients, have runners-up and have third place. Since this is a specific recognition and is different from losing an award, runner-up mentions are considered wins in this award tally. For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination.

Mulligan made her Broadway debut in the play The Seagull, for which she received an Ian Charleson Commendation Award in 2008, as well as a nomination for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. Mulligan's film breakthrough came in the 2009 coming-of-age drama An Education, for which she received the BAFTA Award for Best Actress, the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, and the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, as well as a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

In 2011, Mulligan had supporting roles in the action drama film Drive and the erotic drama film Shame. For her performance in both films, she received nominations for a BAFTA Award and a Critics' Choice Movie Award. In 2015, she starred in the historical drama film Suffragette, for which she earned the Hollywood Film Award for Best Actress. Also that year, her performance in the Broadway revival of Skylight earned her a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play. In 2018, she had a leading role in the family drama Wildlife. Her performance was acclaimed by critics, and she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead.
