Oldest living presidents of Brazil
Not all presidents live to become the oldest of their time. Of the 29 deceased presidents, 14 eventually became the oldest of their time, while 15 did not (including both presidents who died in office, and 13 others). Venceslau Bras became the oldest living president when Epitácio Pessoa died in 1942 and remained so until his death in 1966, for a record 24 years and 91 days. Juscelino Kubitschek became the oldest living president after the death of Gaspar Dutra but he survived Dutra by only 2 years and 72 days.
On one occasion the oldest living president lost this distinction not by his death, but due to the inauguration of a president who was older. Prudente de Morais lost this distinction when Campos Sales was inaugurated in 1898.
Gaspar Dutra was the oldest to acquire this distinction at the age of 82 years, and 362 days. Washington Luis, who was 87 years, and 282 days old when he died, on August 4, 1957 was the oldest president to die without ever acquiring this distinction. Itamar Franco, who died on July 2, 2011, at 81 years and 4 days old is the most recent president to die without ever acquiring this distinction.
