Love Hard (film)

Love Hard is an upcoming American romantic comedy film directed by Hernán Jiménez and written by Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing. The film, which stars Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang and Darren Barnet, is about a young woman who travels to her online crush's hometown for Christmas, but discovers she's been catfished.

Love Hard was produced by Wonderland Sound and Vision, and filmed in Vancouver from October to November 2020. Netflix will release the film in 2021.

Plot

A young woman in Los Angeles falls for a man on a dating app and travels to his East Coast hometown to surprise him for Christmas, but discovers that she's been catfished. Her crush actually does live in the same town, and the guy who duped her offers to set them up, if she pretends to be his girlfriend for the holidays.[1]

In August 2019, it was announced that Netflix had acquired Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing's romantic comedy spec script Love Hard, which was described as "When Harry Met Sally meets Roxanne". McG and Mary Viola were set to produce the film through their company Wonderland Sound and Vision.[2]

In August 2020, it was announced that Hernán Jiménez would direct the film, and that Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang and Charles Melton would star.[1] In October 2020, it was announced that due to Melton's schedule conflicts with the TV series Riverdale, he had been replaced by Darren Barnet. Harry Shum Jr., James Saito, Mikaela Hoover and Heather McMahan were also added to the cast.[3]

Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada,[4] from October 5 to November 24, 2020.[5]

Release

The film will be released by Netflix in 2021.[6]
