LU-CIX was founded in February 2009[1] under the initiative on cross-industry players. These members (listed below) keep running the technical backend requested for LU-CIX to provide its services portfolio.
LU-CIX gathers together national and international telecommunications operators, data centre operators, ISPs and online businesses.[2]
LU-CIX is a member of Euro-IX (European Internet Exchange Association).
Mission
LU-CIX has been created to support the development of the Internet industry in the heart of Europe and increase the attractiveness of Luxembourg as an ICT Hub in the middle of the so-called "Golden Ring".[3]
Its philosophy is based on a strong neutrality concept.
To carry out these missions, LU-CIX: - owns and runs the technical IX infrastructure and - promotes the Internet ecosystem in the Greater Region through organisation of events. The Luxembourg Internet Days [4] is its yearly event that brings together local & international ICT professionals for conferences, open round tables, trade fair and networking sessions focused on two to three topics to be addressed from a more technical and pragmatic way.[5] In 2019, the Luxembourg Internet Days took place in Luxembourg city, on November 12 & 13 with more than 1.100 visitors. The 2020 edition of the Luxembourg Internet Days will be held ONLINE only, for sanitary reasons, on November 17 & 19 and will focus on Network Security & Cloud Security - Crisis Resistance, Management and Resilience. Free online registration for the event is mandatory from the event website to access the event content and functionalities.
LU-CIX also manages the digital platform datacenters-in-europe.com, which lists all the data centers located in Luxembourg.
Infrastructure
LU-CIX is hosted in 8 data centers, PoPs, across the country to facilitate the membership of a majority of Internet related players.
The traffic peak of LU-CIX is 320,3 Gbps.
It also leverages strong partnerships with other IX in Europe[6] (ECIX & FranceIX[7]).
