Overview

Key staff for MMAjunkie include editor-in-chief Dann Stupp,[5] lead staff reporter John Morgan[6] of the Dallas Morning News, staff reporter Steven Marrocco,[7] MMA business columnist Steve Sievert[8] of the Houston Chronicle, and medical columnist and consultant Dr. Johnny Benjamin Jr., M.D. P.A.[9]

A variety of guest columnists and bloggers have been featured such as Ryan Bader (The Ultimate Fighter 8),[10] C.B. Dollaway (The Ultimate Fighter 7)[11] and Brendan Schaub (The Ultimate Fighter 10).[12] A parallel Spanish version of the website is also available.[13]

Radio show

MMAjunkie Radio is a weekly Internet radio show broadcast from Las Vegas, Nevada.[14] MMAjunkie Radio resulted from the acquisition and re-branding of TAGG Radio (Trigg And Gorgeous George), which launched in 2007 and formed a content partnership with MMAjunkie in 2008. The live Internet radio show and podcast was renamed MMAjunkie Radio in early 2009.[15]

Hosted by "Gorgeous" George Garcia, Brian "Goze" Garcia and MMAjunkie lead staff reporter John Morgan, the show broadcasts Monday-Friday with occasional weekend and evening "Primetime" specials. Although once produced from a home studio, the show moved in 2009 to its new studio at the Race & Sports Book inside The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, "Where Eligance and Excitement meet on the Las Vegas Strip".

The two-hour show is a guest-driven program that features some of the most prominent fighters, trainers, promoters and officials in the sport. Additionally, Morgan and other members of the MMAjunkie editorial team frequently discuss and break the latest MMA news on the program.

Upon its initial launch, TAGG Radio became the first radio show co-hosted by an active MMA fighter, though Frank Trigg ultimately had to resign his post due to his UFC contract stipulations.[16] Trainer Marc Laimon has since become a frequent co-host,[17] and veteran fighter Don Frye is an occasional contributor with his humorous "Don Frye-days" personal advice segments.[18]

Awards

The website has won Fighters Only Magazine's World Mixed Martial Arts Awards for 2008 Best MMA Media Source, 2009 Best MMA Media Source, 2009 Best MMA Journalist (John Morgan), 2010 Media Source of the Year and 2011 Source of the Year.[19][20]

MMA Junkie Annual Awards

MMA Junkie began naming award winners in numerous categories in 2013 as a means of internally recognizing the greatest performances and athletes in the sport of mixed martial arts on an annual basis. The number of categories has expanded greatly over the years.

The MMA Junkie Annual Awards are currently determined by a majority rule on the MMA Junkie staff, with selected members taking charge of assigned categories and bringing nominees to a staff vote before the winners are made public.

An exception to that rule was made in 2016, when the "Male Fighter of the Year" and "Female Fighter of the Year" awards were combined into one "Fighter of the Year" category, and MMA Junkie readers were tasked with voting on a winner. Additionally, in 2014, readers were tasked with voting on the "Fighter of the Year," with Robbie Lawler and Ronda Rousey ending in a virtual tie (though voting remains open on the poll, and results could later be skewed), allowing for MMA Junkie to consider both a "Male Fighter of the Year" and "Female Fighter of the Year" for 2014.

In 2013, all six awards given were issued through a fan vote of finalists selected by the staff.

The complete MMA Junkie Annual Awards results include:

Male Fighter of the Year
