Maharram Gasimli

Maharram Gasimli (Azerbaijani: Məhərrəm Qasımlı) is a Doctor of Sciences in Philology, professor, Vice Director of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences' Literature Institute,[1] chairman of Azerbaijan Ashugs' Union (03.03.2016 to present),[2][3] literature scholar, folklore scholar, Meritorious Scientist,[4] and poet.[5]

Maharram Gasimli was born in 1958 in the village of Alakol in Tovuz, Azerbaijan. He graduated from Azerbaijan State University with a major in philology.

He currently works in the Literature Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He is Director of the Folklore Division of the Institute.[6][7] In 1992, he was appointed Vice Director of Academics for the Institute.[8]

He was in the working group to prepare the ten-volume History of Azerbaijani Literature. He is the editor-in-chief of the Folklore and Ethnography Journal which has been published since 2003.

He compiled the Novruz encyclopedia in 2008 and was its chief scientific editor. He published his book "Ozan-aşık sanatı" in Turkey in 2010.

He akso writes poetry under the pseudonym Orxan Paşa. He published a poetry book in 2004 entitled "Sənə sözüm var".

He is currently working on the "Ozan-Aşıq" encyclopedia. He is the principal secretary of Azerbaijan Ashugs' Union.[9] He was appointed as chairman of the union in 2016.

He has published more than 250 academic articles and 2 monographs in Azerbaijan. He has published 20 articles abroad.[10][11]

He has been the host of several TV programs on Azerbaijan Television and its affiliate Culture channel including "Music Treasure Chest" and "Saz- Word Evening." [12]
