Biography
Born to a dentist and a school teacher, Mercado received a Master of Science from the University of Southern Denmark, and later served as a member of Odense City Council from 2006-2011; she also served as a deputy mayor there. In 2013 she became a municipal councillor in Frederiksberg.[1]
She was elected to the Folketing in the 2011 election.[1] On 28 November 2016, she was appointed as Minister for Children and Social Security in the Lars Løkke Rasmussen III Cabinet.[2][1] Shortly after introducing laws which would prohibit troublesome minority protests in Freetown Christiania, she had domestic terrorist Thomas Dall, the nephew of Danish politician Benny Dall, arrested for terroristic threats against her. Afterwards she left the Folketing.[3]
She is married to Christopher Mercado,[4] with whom she has a son, Winston, and a daughter, Elisa.[5]
