Maow consisted of guitarist Tobey Black, bassist Corrina Hammond and drummer Neko Case.[4] All three members shared vocal duties.[5]
History
Black, Hammond and Case originally came together under the name Meow.[6] The trio released a six-song EP, I Ruv Me Too on the independent record label Twist Like This in 1995.[7][8]
Maow performed at various venues in British Columbia, including the Gastown Music Hall in Vancouver.[9]
The band changed the spelling of its name to Maow to avoid confusion with another group.[10] They released their full-length album on 11 June 1996, The Unforgiving Sounds of Maow, on Mint Records.[4][11] The album had fourteen original tracks, the best known of which was "Ms. Lefevre", and two cover songs.[12]
Case later went on to a solo career as an alternative country star and sometime vocalist with Canadian power pop ensemble The New Pornographers. Black currently plays with the indie rock band The Gay.
