Marcus Henderson (born September 13, 1987) is an American actor best known for his role as Roman "Walter" Armitage in the Oscar-winning horror film Get Out.

Early life

Henderson was born in St. Louis to Leon and Barbara Henderson. He has one brother, Leon Henderson Jr. He attended college at Alabama State University on a football scholarship.

While there he became a member of the Gamma Beta chapter for Phi Beta Sigma.[1] While there, he saw a one-man show performed by Charles S. Dutton which led to his first professional role as an uncredited extra in the film Honeydripper. Dutton wrote Henderson a letter of recommendation to Yale School of Drama where Henderson graduated in 2011.[2][1][3][4] He is married and has two daughters and lives in Los Angeles.[5][6]

Career

Henderson describes himself as an actor, poet, chess and ukulele enthusiast and has said theater is "his first love".[5][7] He has performed Shakespeare both at Yale and on the California Shakespeare Company.[8][9] Henderson's first major film role was as the character Big Sid in Django Unchained. He played a small part in the TV series Survivor's Remorse and had a recurring part in the TV series Snowfall. In 2016, he portrayed one of henchmen who sets out to capture a dragon in Pete's Dragon. In 2017 he had a co-starring role in the film Get Out for which he was nominated for an ensemble Gold Derby Award along with the rest of the cast.[10] Also in 2018, Marcus played character 'Engel' during season 1, in Homecoming, an Amazon series also starring; Julia Roberts. Homecoming was nominated for 3 Golden Globes, including Best Drama Series. He has been cast in Juanita, a film adaptation of Sheila Williams’ novel Dancing on the Edge of the Roof.[11] He plays the character Granville "Granny" Smith on tru TV's show Tacoma FD.
