Life

Michael Hüter was born in 1968 in Carinthia, Austria.[1] He studied history, German studies, philosophy, and art history at the University of Salzburg.[2] He worked as a freelance pianist and composer between 1996 and 2012[2] and is also a writer for the German online magazine Rubikon.[2]

Hüter is known as a sharp critic of the current school system,[3][4] arguing that schools destroy the talents and abilities of many children and is intended to make people obedient, reduce their self-esteem and make them receptive to ideologies.[4] He also claims that schools are mainly there for employment purposes rather than providing extensive education for children and that many students no longer want to learn voluntarily after school because their natural desire to learn has been driven out there.[4] He claims that the state benefits from the school system because certain ideologies can be enforced in schools at any time within only one generation.[4] In a conservation with Ken Jebsen, Margret Rasfeld, Bertrand Stern and Manfred Spitzer at KenFM, he said that he would abolish the Schulpflicht in Germany because he is of the opinion that the institution of school is not necessary in order to get an education and that forced schooling may be counterproductive for the education of a person,[5] arguing that it can hurt children mentally and emotionally:[4][6][7][8][9] "The majority of our children experience their childhood in closed rooms; far away from their parents, with whom they should actually first develop an emotional bond."[10]

Hüter has three children[4][11] of whom he unschools the youngest.[4]
