Misha Osherovich

Misha Osherovich is an American actor, filmmaker, and activist known for their role in the film Freaky.

Life and career

Osherovich was raised in the Washington, D.C. area by Russian parents.[1] Their family is Jewish.[2] Osherovich graduated with a BFA in Acting from Montclair State University.[3] They made their New York stage debut in the off-Broadway production of A Clockwork Orange at New World Stages.[4]

Osherovich’s television and film credits include roles in the 2019 film The Goldfinch[5] as well as the AMC series NOS4A2.[6] They then co-starred in the horror comedy-film Freaky, released on November 13, 2020.[6][7] Osherovich wrote and co-produced the short film E.very D.ay.[8] The film addresses Osherovich’s struggle with an eating disorder as well as covering the topics of mental health and body image.[9]

Osherovich is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.[10]

Activism

Osherovich is an advocate for mental healthcare access for the queer community. Partnering with NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association),[9] Osherovich produced the organization's first social media Pride campaign to advocate for awareness about disordered eating and body image struggles within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Osherovich attended a rally held by Paris Hilton in protest of alleged abuse at Provo Canyon School and programs for troubled teens and spoke out about the abuse they said they experienced at a Utah troubled teen facility in Utah called Island View Residential Treatment Center.[11] Elevation's clinical director, Jordan Killpack, is a former Provo Canyon School therapist.[12]

The non-binary star opened up more in Them about their experience in the troubled teen industry and why they don’t want any other queer person to go through the same thing.[13] Osherovich likened what Island View and another facility they attended in Conneticut did to conversion therapy, explaining that queerness and expressions of queerness were considered rebellion for which students would get punished or go to isolation.[13] Osherovich later tweeted their support for the viral Breaking Code Silence movement, which is a network of survivors and activists to raise awareness of the problems in the Troubled Teen Industry, and the need for reform.[14][15]
