Nancy Birtwhistle

Nancy Birtwhistle (born c.1954) is a British baker who, in winning the fifth series in 2014 at the age of 60, became the oldest winner of The Great British Bake Off.[1] Birtwhistle – a grandmother of eight[2] – had applied to appear in the program in 2013 but was unsuccessful.[3] She now contributes to national papers such as The Daily Telegraph, has her own website, and gives baking demonstrations across the UK.[4] Before taking baking up seriously, Birtwhistle was a Practice Manager at a GP surgery.[5] She was born in Hull,[6] and lives in Barton-upon-Humber with her husband, Tim.[7] In 2019, Birtwhistle released a cookbook, Sizzle & Drizzle: Tips for a Modern Day Home-maker.[8]
