Kickboxing career

Tanaka made his RISE debut in June 2015, against Shinji Totsu. He defeated him by unanimous decision.[2] Tanaka won his next five fights with the organization as well: he won a unanimous decision against Tomo Janjira,[3] Yuma Isencho by TKO,[4] Yuya Fujita and Fumiya Kawashima by decision,[5][6] and Keisuke Niwa by TKO.

Tanaka suffered his first professional loss during RISE 117, losing a majority decision to Ikki.[7] He rebounded with a head kick knockout of Fumiya Kawashima,[8] but would lose his next two against Shohei Asahara and Tomohiro Kitai.[9]

Naoki won his next five fights, which earned him a chance to fight Miki Shiraki for the vacant Suk Wan Kingthong 65 kg title. He defeated Shiraki by unanimous decision.[10]

Tanaka next entered the 2020 RISE Qualification tournament, which was held during RISE 136. In the semifinals, he defeated Yuma Yamaguchi by a third round TKO. In the finals, he defeated Tomohiro Kitai by a second round TKO.[11][12]

Winning the qualification tournament earned him a place in the 2020 RISE DEAD OR ALIVE 63kg tournament. He was scheduled to fight the former RISE Lightweight champion Taiju Shiratori. He defeated Taiju by a first round TKO, as a significant underdog. He failed to win the tournament however, as he lost by TKO to Kento Haraguchi.[13]

Tanaka fought Hideki at RISE 145 for the vacant RISE Lightweight title, winning the fight by unanimous decision.[14]
