Neil Hudson (politician)

Neil Peter Hammerton Hudson[1] FRCVS is a British politician and academic who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Penrith and The Border since 2019. A member of the Conservative Party, he has served on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee since 2020.

Academic career

Hudson studied at the University of Cambridge, qualifying from the veterinary school in 1994. Hudson then completed an internship at the University of Sydney, gaining a diploma in 1995, and later a PhD in Equine Gastroenterology at the University of Edinburgh.[2]

Hudson is a senior lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies.[2][3]

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.[2]

Political career

In the 2005 general election, Hudson contested the Newcastle upon Tyne North UK parliamentary constituency, losing to the incumbent Labour MP Doug Henderson.[4] Hudson also contested the Edinburgh South UK parliamentary constituency in the 2010 general election, losing to the Labour candidate Ian Murray.[5]

Hudson was elected the MP for Penrith and The Border in the 2019 general election, winning a majority of 18,519 votes.[6][7]

Since March 2020, Hudson has been a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee.[8]

Personal life

Hudson has performed in the Cambridge Footlights and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.[9]
