New Fairview, Texas

New Fairview is a city in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 1258 at the 2010 census.[5] Growing from a settlement called Illinois Community, the city was called Fairview until 1999, when it was changed to distinguish it from several other Fairviews in Texas. In order to maintain a quieter, more rural atmosphere, residential lots are legally limited to a minimum size of 1 acre.

Geography

New Fairview is located at 33°6′36″N 97°27′27″W (33.110028, -97.457571). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.5 square miles (40 km2), all land.[6]

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 877 people, 286 households, and 241 families residing in the city. The population density was 58.1 people per square mile (22.4/km2). There were 317 housing units at an average density of 21.0/sq mi (8.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.22% White, 0.34% African American, 1.25% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 4.45% from other races, and 2.51% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.18% of the population.

There were 286 households, out of which 45.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.7% were non-families. 10.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 1.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.07 and the average family size was 3.32.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.9% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 39.2% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 4.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $48,500, and the median income for a family was $48,833. Males had a median income of $34,712 versus $25,156 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,310. About 5.5% of families and 9.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.1% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.

Education

The City of New Fairview is served by two Independent School Districts Northwest and Decatur.
