The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the Nottinghamshire Police Authority. The incumbent is Paddy Tipping, representing the Labour Party, who was returned in 2012 and again in 2016.[1][2]

Elections are scheduled for 6 May, 2021, having been postponed from May 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.[3][4]
