History
The hotel was designed by Swedish architect Sten Samuelson and opened in 1974, as Hotel Forum. It was built by Orbis Hotels, the Polish Communist hotel monopoly, and operated by US-based Inter-Continental Hotels through their budget Forum Hotels division.[1] The hotel was built in what was considered a record speed for that time and place.[2] When constructed, it was the second tallest building in Warsaw,[1] surpassed only by the Palace of Culture and Science.[3] In 2000, the French Accor group bought a 20% stake in Orbis[4] and the Hotel Forum was transferred to Accor's Novotel division in 2002.[1]
