Nureongi

The Nureongi[1] are mongrel dogs with yellowish coloring.[2][3] The term is the transliteration of the Korean word "누렁이" meaning "yellow one”.[3]

There are several meanings of nureongi ("누렁이"), which basically means yellowy:[4]

  1. A yellow object or animal.
  2. A dog or cow with yellow fur.
  3. A common language expression for golden.

In a 2009 article about dog meat consumption in South Korea, Anthony Podberscek of Cambridge University uses this term for dogs that are farmed and eaten.[3]
