Ompundja Constituency

Ompundja Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It had 4,423 registered voters in 2004.[1] The constituency councillor is SWAPO politician Adolf Hitler Uunona who has been serving in this role since 2004[2] but rose to international attention in 2020 when news media picked up that his middle name is Hitler.[3][4][5] Uunona stated in response, "my father gave me this name Adolf Hitler, but it does not mean I have Adolf Hitler's character".[2]

It is the birthplace of ambassador, politician and businessperson Monica Nashandi.[6]

Politics

Ompundja constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party. In the 2015 local and regional elections the SWAPO candidate won uncontested and became councillor after no opposition party nominated a candidate.[7]
