The company was established in 2005. Their first beta release, in January 2006, was the first ever open-source HRMS. Today the product has more than 3 million users and the company has partners in the US, Europe and Asia.

The architecture of the application targets startups, SMB, & enterprise organizations. OrangeHRM's professional & enterprise product tiers offer many different modules, such as, personnel information management (PIM), leave & time off management, time & attendance management, recruiting & on-boarding, performance & training, travel & expense tracker, employment compliance, disciplinary tracking, orange app and other HR management tools.

History

The co-founder and chief executive officer of OrangeHRM is Sujee Saparamadu. In 2005, the organization started with four employees, which included one developer. OrangeHRM 1.0 which was released in March 2006, comprised features such as PIM, ESS, and reports modules, while also enabling administrative users and ESS users to have different authority levels to the data in the application.

Over the next 10 years, OrangeHRM evolved into a more comprehensive HR solution provider. In 2007, the company was ranked fourth best in the category of enterprise projects and was among the top ten of all projects in the software development web site, SourceForge. During the same year, the application was made available in Russian, Spanish and Danish languages. The HR software also received a BOSSIE award in 2008, 2012, & 2013.

The company formed its first partnership with Canadian company Ross, making OrangeHRM services available to the Canadian market. Larry Stefonic, an international expert in escalating business growth, specifically in the software industry was made part of the OrangeHRM advisory board in 2009.

David Axmark, a founder of MySQL AB and a developer of the free database server, MySQL, is on the board of directors.

Training

Orange HRM provides online and onsite training in HR management techniques and the HRIS. Orange HRM online training is conducted via Cisco’s Webex, which allows small training groups to participate from any location. Orange HRM On-site be conducted at any location upon request. This training targets large groups of trainees. Individuals who successfully complete the training session and sit for the examination are awarded a certificate of 'Orange HRM Certified Administrator'.
