Order of Montreal

The Order of Montreal (French: Ordre de Montréal) is a Canadian civic order of merit that is awarded by the municipal government of Montreal, Quebec.[1] It was established on May 17, 2016, by the Mayor of Montreal at that time, Denis Coderre.[2]

The city held a design competition for artists to design the medal that would be presented to recipients of the Order of Montreal.[3]

The Order of Montreal succeeded the Académie des Grands Montréalais, a special honour that was created in 1988 by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and terminated in 2015.[1] All recipients of that honour were awarded the Order of Montreal in December 2016.[4][5]
