Like its competitor product the Saiga-12 or Vepr-12, the Origin-12 is based primarily based on the AK action.[1] A legally-interesting variant is the Origin 12 SBV, a short-barrel variant fitted with an arm-brace; because it is not designed to be shouldered it is legally not a shotgun, and being a smoothbore it is legally not a handgun, and because it fires a shotgun shell it is legally not a Destructive Device. Origin-12 does not fit the criteria for an Any Other Weapon (as it is over 26–inches long), thus legally making it a non-NFA "firearm". The ATF reclassified this weapon as an SBS on 12/19/19, requiring a tax stamp to be purchased for the SBV model. The gun has been featured in the 2019 video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and 2020 in Call of Duty:Mobile. As well as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
