The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2013 and is part of the Ormiston Academies Trust.

The school has repeatedly received negative reviews over the years. Many complaints refer to the poor education the students receive, the lack of a learning support unit and the absence of many subjects. Furthermore, the pastoral care at the school is not up to par with many of the other schools in the area.
