Oswal

The Oswal (sometimes spelled Oshwal or Osval) are Jain and Hindu community with origins in the Marwar region of Rajasthan and Tharparkar district in Sindh.[1]They were formerly Kshatriyas, of Parmara dynasty ,Chauhan , Bhati ,Rathore ,Gehalot ,Sisodia , Solanki dyansty etc. The origin of Oswals is from the small town or village osian. They are divided into three major groups i.e. Pancha ,Dasa and Visa Oswals. The Parmara Kshatriya clan have Kuldevi Sachiyay Mata. Some of the other clan have Adhar Mata, Amba mata ,Ashapura mata ,Brahmani mata ,Bhawani mata, Suswani Mata, Hinglaj mata .The temple of Sachiyay Mata was built by Upendre(Upaldeo or Utpaldev) first king of Parmara dynasty. Some of them have also adopted for Swaminarayana Sampradayay and some follow Vaishnavism. The Oswals have more than thousands of Gotra based on given by Jain Acharya but the original gotra is Vasishtha who still are from the Kshatriya lineage of Paramara Dynasty ;they follow the rituals of kuldevi and kuldevta.

Some of the kshatriya surnames include parmar, singh or sinh, Sodha, Sodagar(not saudagar of muslim community), Rathore or Rathod, Chauhan, Bhanavat, Panwar or Panvar, Rawat or Ravat, Bhati, Solanki and Sonagra etc.

Some Vaishya (Bania or Vania )surnames are Jhaveri or Zaveri, Shah, Mehta, oswal or oshwal, Vora, Vaidya, Shrimali, Sancheti, Shreshthi, karnavat, kothari,seth or sethia, chaudhari , Lodha, Bothra, Daga , Nahar, Kochar, Lunawat, Gala, Bhandari etc.
