The Outer Ring Road project under the Capital Region Development Programme is to soon become a reality with the Centre agreeing to bear 50% of the cost of land acquisition and asking the state to fix the alignment. The first phase project will connect the 40-km stretch from Port of Trivandrum to Mangalapuram in Trivandrum and second phase will connect the 40km stretch from Mangalapuram to Parippally in Kollam district. Apart from the six-lane road that will be 60 metres wide, the corridor will have development zones. This includes the northern logistics hub of 60 acres at Mangalapuram and the southern at Neeramankuzhy. Andoorkonam (48 acres) and Pantalacode (80 acres) are the economical and commercial zones. The proposed alignment is through Parippally, Kilimanoor, Pothencode, Mangalapuram, Panthalacode, Kanacode, Vencode, Aruvikkara, Cheriyakonni, Chowallor, Vilappilsala, Killi, Thungampara, Maranallor, Valiyarthala, Mukkampalamoodu, Madavoorpara, Chavadinada, Venganoor, Kalluvettankuzhi and Vizhinjam.
