Background

The fixtures were originally scheduled to be played in July 2020,[3] ahead of Pakistan's tour of England.[4][5] It would have been the first bilateral T20I series between the two sides.[6] Cricket Ireland confirmed the fixtures for this series in December 2019.[7]

Pakistan were also scheduled to play a three-match One Day International (ODI) series against the Netherlands prior to the series.[8] However, on 22 April 2020, the Dutch government announced that it had banned all events in the country, both sports and cultural, until 1 September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[9][10]

In April 2020, Cricket Ireland's Chief Executive, Warren Deutrom, stated that international cricket in Ireland during 2020 was at "high risk" due to the coronavirus pandemic.[11][12] Deutrom later stated that Cricket Ireland would "make every endeavour to be as flexible as we can" in regards to any rescheduled fixtures.[13] The Irish government announced a provisional date of 20 July 2020 for a possible restart of sporting fixtures in the country.[14] However, on 15 May 2020, the tour was postponed due to the pandemic.[15][16]
