History

The Pennington County Historical Society was established in 1930s.[3] The museum was established in 1976, and was built to provide a living history of the town. The museum was named after Peder Engelstad, a local Norwegian immigrant from Vang, Hedmark (and the grandfather of businessman Ralph Engelstad).[4] The museum consists of over 25,000 items, displayed across 19 buildings. The buildings feature a Swedish Lutheran church, constructed in 1916, a number of late 19th Century log houses, two railroad building depots, a schoolhouse as well as a number of original shops including a general store, barber shop, blacksmiths and a two-story residential home.[5]
