Life and career

Beveridge was born in the Sydney suburb of Glebe, the son of merchant and later Mayor of Redfern, John Beveridge. He started his career as a shopkeeper in the New South Wales town of Hillston, not far from his father's business in Hay.

In 1901, Beveridge was elected for a single term as an Alderman on the Hillston Municipal Council.[1][2] He resigned from council in early 1904.[3] He married Gladys Parsons in Sydney in August 1911.[4]

Beveridge made his first-class cricket debut in February 1919 at the age of 43 or 44. He scored 93 not out and 24 for Auckland against Wellington in his second match, which Auckland won, but he never played again.[5]
