Rafael Marchan

Rafael Alejandro Marchan (born February 25, 1999) is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut, on September 14, 2020, against the Miami Marlins.[1]

Career

The Phillies signed Marchan as an international free agent in 2015, for a $200,000 signing bonus.[2] Originally a shortstop, the Phillies converted him into a catcher.[3]

Marchan was added to the Phillies’ 60-player pool, on July 16, 2020,[4] leading to his promotion to the major leagues, on September 13.[5] On September 14, 2020, during his MLB debut, Marchan singled in his first big league at bat.[1]
