Rafe Champion

Rafe Champion (born July 1945) is an Australian writer. He was born in the Australian state of Tasmania, and grew up on a farm in the northern part of that state, near Irishtown. He studied agricultural science at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, then went to the University of Adelaide for postgraduate study before moving to Sydney.

In the late 1970s he married artist Kilmeny Niland. They have four children: Leo, Hugh, Patrick and Tom Champion.

Champion has written a number of nonfiction books, two of them collaborations with his mother-in-law, Ruth Park. The two collaborations are Ruth Park's Sydney, a guidebook, and Home Before Dark, a biography of Australian boxer Les Darcy. He has also written a book of collected essays and reviews related to Karl Popper, and a handbook on real-estate law.
