Meaning

In Persian, the term rāyān (رایان) means "wise".[7] It derives from the root rāy (رای), meaning "wisdom", which comes from Middle Persian raynitan and occurs in Avestan as raonat, ultimately driving from Roy or Ray in Sanskrit, a honorific or surname given to wise rulers and soldiers.

The word rāyāne (رایانه), receiving the suffix -e (ـه), was derived from the same root to be selected by the Academy of Persian Language and Literature as the Persian word for "computer".[10]
