Rogers Ranch, Texas

Rogers Ranch was named for Martha A. and C.M. Rogers, who had a ranch covering portions of Caldwell, Hays, and Travis counties in the 1880s. It was then divided into many different lots and was sold that next decade, and the portion in Caldwell County, which was the southeastern portion of the ranch, became the Rogers Ranch community. A majority of the families who bought the land in this area were German immigrants who came from nearby New Braunfels, and a church and a school were taught in both English and German for several years. New residents then came to the new, thriving community, and they were Mexican and Black. A combined bowling alley and community center was built in the settlement in 1910, but then burned down a decade later, in 1920. There were several separate church and school campuses for White, Black, and Mexican families living in the settlement until either the 1930s or 1940s. The schools in the community were then joined up with the Lockhart Independent School District in 1950. Larger farms bought the other family farms in Rogers Ranch, and only about two or three cemeteries were the only things in the settlement in the early 1960s.[1]

Rogers Ranch is located near Farm to Market Road 2001, 7 mi (11 km) northwest of Lockhart in the northwestern part of Caldwell County.[1]
