Rohru

Rohru is a town and a municipal committee in Shimla district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is at the banks of the Pabbar River, and it is about 115 km from Shimla city. Rohru is famous for its apples, treking and trout fishing. The hatchery is at Dhamwari, 25 km upstream of Rohru town. The beautiful Nazeru devta's temple is in Shakli, 15 km from Rohru. Devta Morish temple is in Rantari, 17 km upstream and devta Shikru maharaj's temple in middle of the town.

Demographics

As of 2010 India census,[1] Rohru had a population of 14953. Males constitute 59% of the population and females 41%. Rohru has an average literacy rate of 94%, much higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 96%, and female literacy is 89%. In Rohru, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. The native language here is Pahari but Hindi and English are also spoken.

Rohru has a number of offices of Himachal government and a weekly session of Shimla High Court convenes regularly as well.

Initially Rohru was a part of Bushahr State but was later declared as an individual tehsil by the Himachal government. Rohru has an individual MLA seat.

Member of Legislative Assembly Rohru is Mohan Lal Brakta of Congress. Virbhadra Singh (former CM of Himachal) has been elected as an MLA from Rohru for seven terms.
