Ryan Wang

Ryan Wang is a Canadian pianist and child prodigy. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Early life and education

Wang is from West Vancouver. He mother is named Iris Wang[1] and he has a younger brother.[2] Wang attends Collingwood School in Vancouver.[3]

Career

Wang was only five years old in 2013 when he performed his first solo recital at Carnegie Hall. He was selected for the performance as part of the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition and played Variations on a Russian Theme.[1] He came second in the competition.[3] Shortly after his performance at Carnegie Hall, Wang appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he again performed Variations on a Russian Theme.[4] Wang has played with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra[5] and the Shanghai Symphony[4] and performed at the Steinway Hall and Italy's Fazioli Hall.[3]

He was invited to perform as part of the cultural component of Canada's participation in the APEC Summit in Beijing, 2014, and he was also invited to perform a private recital in the Canadian Prime Minister's home.

Awards

In 2017 and 2019, Wang was the recipient of the Emerging Artist Grant from the Vancouver Academy of Music.[2]
