SCP - Secret Laboratory
SCP: Secret Laboratory is a free indie supernatural horror multiplayer video game. It was initially based on the single-player game SCP - Containment Breach, which is itself based on the paranormal fictional stories of the SCP Foundation website. The game is played from a first person perspective as a scientist, armed guard or task force member, escaping test subject, attacking insurgent, or a rampaging anomalous entity (referred to as an SCP).

Background
SCP: Secret Laboratory is based on the collaborative writing project of the SCP Foundation. The SCP Foundation is a fictional organization that captures and studies entities and objects that violate natural law (called SCPs); the actions of the fictional organization are documented by a collaborative writing website of the same name. In the game, these SCPs have breached out of their containment areas and are attempting to kill on-site personnel.[1] Due to the breach, facility guards are told to go into the lower area of the site and rescue the scientists and shoot or arrest the Class-D personnel. The SCP Foundation also deploys a "Mobile Task Force" known as the Nine Tailed Fox to deal with and re-contain the escaped anomalies.
Description
SCP: Secret Laboratory is a first-person, multiplayer video game set within the fictional setting of the SCP Foundation. The game takes place in the immediate aftermath of a "containment breach" caused by the attacking Chaos Insurgency (an armed group opposed to the SCP Foundation).[1][2] Players can play as an escaped SCP, an attacking member of the Chaos Insurgency, a member of Nine-Tailed Fox (an armed group defending the SCP Foundation), an escaping Class-D Personnel (prison inmates used as test subjects), or an escaping scientist.[2]
The game is broken up into rounds. The round will end when the last surviving players are all in the same faction (with the exception of Chaos Insurgency and SCPs). Each round can end in one of four possibilities.
- SCPs win the round by killing all Class-D personnel, scientists, and Nine-Tailed Fox Units, and preventing Class-D and scientists from escaping.
- Class-D have two win conditions: At least one Class-D must successfully escape, and the Chaos Insurgency must not be killed.
- The MTF have three win conditions: At least one scientist must successfully escape, all the SCPs must "be contained" (in actual gameplay, all SCPs must be killed), and no Class-Ds can escape.
- If a Class-D escapes but all of the Chaos Insurgency die, or all of the SCPs die but a scientist doesn't escape, the round will end in a stalemate, resulting in the loss of all factions.
On regular intervals, players who have died or joined the game while it was in progress will re-spawn as Nine-Tailed Fox units or Chaos Insurgency units and can assist their surviving factions to a victory. The selection of team spawns is based on a ticket system.
Development
Secret Laboratory was released to Steam in 2017; the game was based on SCP - Containment Breach.[1] As of October 2020, the game is fully released.
Reception
Kayla Fitzgerald, writing for Oxen Games, described Secret Laboratory as "the latest word in multiplayer action games."[3] She praised Secret Laboratory's gameplay, graphics, and sounds, but noted that the game suffered from issues with character balance, crashes, and difficulty connecting to servers.[3] Dean Clark, writing for Game Tyrant, described the game as fun, but noted that it was difficult to join servers and to aim weapons within the game.[2] Both reviewers described Secret Laboratory as having great potential once the various identified issues are resolved.[3][2]
