Sadie Kaye

Kaye was raised in Sai Kung, Hong Kong.[4] She was educated at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge.[5]

Kaye started in television presenting children's series Beezwacks on TVB[6][7] and children's quiz Eat Your Words on ITV.[8]

She created[9] and hosted[8] ETV comedy series Dinner Party[10] and appeared as an actress in sketch shows, including Sack the Writer.[11] She helped judge Channel 4 competition Comedy Circuit [12] and appeared on Channel 4 series The New Entrepreneurs.[13] In 2006 she was a partner in indie Blue Reef.[14]

She produced and presented a series of 3 Minute Wonders for Channel 4 about the 2009 Centre for Social Justice Awards[15] and documentary films Sailing Miss Sadie (2010)[16][17] and Tucker's Luck (2011)[18][19][20] for Sky. In both films she mentors young offenders from The Prince's Trust, taking small groups of them abroad.[21][22][23]

She appeared as an actress in American western film West of Thunder (2012)[24][25][26][27] and British comedy FLIM the Movie (2014).[28][29] The former won Best Film on Human Rights from the Political Film Society in 2013[30] and the latter was nominated for a BIFA (Raindance Award) in 2014.[31][32]

In 2020 she co-produced Transference with the director and producers of Flim.[33] The film received a Special Jury Mention at the 2020 New York Socially Relevant Film Festival.[34][35] It was released by 1091 Pictures 10 November 2020.[36][37][38]

Kaye returned to Hong Kong in 2014. Having piloted the character in a sketch on Funny or Die,[39][40] she began presenting a variety of comic slots as 'Miss Adventure' on RTHK Radio 3's Afternoon Drive.[41][42][43] Since Sept 2020 she's written and presented a humor column, Sharp Pains, for RTHK's 123 Show.[44]

She has produced and presented two documentaries about mental health for RTHK, Bipolar Express[45][46] and As Bad As It Gets.[47][48] Bipolar Express was Highly Commended in the Radio Creative Feature category by the Association for International Broadcasting in 2015.[49][50][51] As Bad As It Gets, about OCD, aired in 2019.[52]

Since 2020 she's presented Mental Ideas as a weekly strand of RTHK Radio 3's 123 Show.[53][2][54] In the series she interviews a variety of guests about mental health, including cartoonist Larry Feign[2] and actor Philippe Joly.[55] She'd previously appeared on the show discussing mental health as a guest.[56][57][58] The Mental Ideas Podcast was nominated by the Association for International Broadcasting for a 2020 AIB Award in the Factual Podcast category.[59][60][61][62]

Her children's book The Wishing Machine was published 31 October 2014.[63][64][65] In November 2020 Kaye was awarded a place in the Proverse Poetry Prize's 2021 anthology, Mingled Voices 5.[66][67] In November 2020 her RTHK humor column Sharp Pains was published as a column in the SCMP.[68]

She set up and runs nonprofit mental health groups Bipolar Hong Kong[69][70] and Mental Ideas.[71][72] In 2020 she initiated a project to assist food waste charities feed the homeless during the pandemic.[73][74]
