Saif Jassim

Saif Jassim (Arabic: سيف جاسم , born 1996), is an Iraqi footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Al-Mina'a in Iraqi Premier League.[1]

Club career

Saif Jassim started playing football at Al-Zawraa Academy, and in 2011 the coach Radhi Shenaishel promoted him from the youth team to play in the first team, then he was loaned to Al-Taji to get the opportunity to play continuously.[2] On June 2, 2012 Saif scored his first goal in the Iraqi Premier League for Al-Taji against Al-Najaf, in the match that ended 4–1 for Al-Najaf.[3]

On August 27, 2012, Saif moved to Al-Sinaa for one season,[4] and after he presented a distinguished level with the team, his contract was renewed for an additional season,[5] and he scored his first goal for Al-Sinaa Club against Masafi Al-Wasat on August 7, 2013 in the match that ended with a 2–2 draw.[6]

On August 13, 2014, in the summer transfer stage, Saif moved to Zakho, but he left the team in the winter transfer stage in the same season to sign with Al-Najaf on December 11, 2014,[7] and he scored his first goal for Al-Najaf against Duhok on April 26, 2015, in which Al-Najaf won 2–1.[8]

In 2015 Saif moved to Al-Hudood, and scored his first goal for Al-Hudood against his former club Al-Najaf on October 26, 2016, in the match that ended in a 2–2 draw. Saif scored the draw goal in extra time.[9] In 2017 and during the summer transfer period, Saif moved to Naft Al-Wasat, and in the winter transfer period of the same season he moved to Erbil on March 20, 2018,[10] and in the following season Jassim returned to Al-Hudood on August 8, 2018,[11] and on July 23, 2019, Saif scored the second goal for Al-Hudood against his former team, Naft Al-Wasat, in the match that ended in a 2–2 draw, and saved his team from a loss.[12]

On August 20, 2019, Saif moved to Al-Mina'a[13] and presented a distinguished level with the team at the start of the league, but the league competition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[14] On July 17, 2020, Al-Mina'a returned to renew its contract with Saif for an additional season.[15]

Style of play

Saif plays as a defensive midfielder and provides solutions to the team, as he is distinguished by cutting the balls and by his success in linking the defense line to the attack, and he works to supply the attack line with effective passes, and he can score goals as well.[16]
